Council District 4:  The 4th Council District in the City of Los Angeles covers a variety of communities, from Sherman Oaks in the San Fernando Valley, the Hollywood Hills and Griffith Park, Silver Lake and Los Feliz, and communities stretching from Miracle Mile and Hancock Park.

The Job: The Office of Councilmember David Ryu (http://davidryu.lacity.org/) is seeking a Planning Deputy to work on all aspects of the district’s planning and land use issues, from individual cases to policy and plans under the supervision of the Planning Director.  The individual must have a desire to help make the City a better place to live, have a proactive attitude, be able to work well under pressure, and manage multiple priorities at once. The job is an opportunity to learn planning processes and directly work on pressing and high profile land use issues facing the City of Los Angeles.    

The Role: Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to: weekly tracking of planning cases and policy through the public process, policy research and development, monitoring and staffing the Planning & Land Use committee, council and community meetings, preparing briefings for the Councilmember and senior staff, regular outreach and interaction with key community and stakeholder groups, response to general queries on planning in the district, public representation of the Councilmember at hearings and community meetings, helping with diverse needs as they arise in a fast-paced political environment. 

The Candidate:  The ideal candidate will possess excellent interpersonal skills, strong verbal and writing abilities, sound judgment, a passion for making meaningful, sustainable change in Los Angeles, and is ready to work in a high-energy, fast-paced and collaborative work environment. Candidates should hold a post-secondary degree and/or have at least several years work experience in planning and land use. Familiarity with planning in the City of L.A. is a plus.
