Job Description

The City of San Leandro is currently recruiting a new Planner II to assist with current and long range planning. San Leandro is a dynamic and diverse urban Bay Area community of 90,000 people, actively redeveloping itself through the implementation of Transit Oriented Development (TOD) plans at its two BART stations and along the East Bay’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line connecting to downtown Oakland. This mid-level Planner II position is an ideal opportunity for anyone seeking to move up and grow in the planning profession. Candidates should have a background in planning, architecture and/or land use in California and be curious, capable and interested in working on a wide variety of planning projects. Responsibilities range from providing front counter customer service to evaluating and presenting development proposals before the Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Adjustments. This Planner II position is full-time limited and currently funded for a two year period. The salary range is $7,904.00 to $9,607.00 monthly plus City benefits including healthcare and PERS. The position is represented by Local 21 IFPTE, AFL-CIO and subject to a 3% salary increase in January, 2020. Required Experience / Skills / Education

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning, environmental design, planning, public administration, business administration, city planning, architecture, economics, civil engineering, urban design or a closely-related field.

Experience: Two years of responsible experience in economic development, planning, affordable housing, community development or a related area performing duties involving program development, administration, project and program evaluation and monitoring, capital improvement, and revitalization.

AICP certification preferred.
