Job Description
This position functions under the Senior Planner and under the direction of the Planning and Building Director. The new Assistant Planner will provide assistance at the public counter
regarding inquiries and requests, as well as review development plans for construction of homes and commercial buildings. Specific responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Explaining the City’s zoning requirements and procedures to contractors, architects, and homeowners for application to the Design Review Committee and Planning Commission.
- Participating in preparing initial studies and preparing/reviewing environmental impact reports.
- Compiling information and making recommendations on special studies and preparing routine planning reports.
- Interpreting technical building codes, ordinances, plans and specifications with increasing independence.
- Participating in zoning enforcement and administration.
- Providing primary staff support to the Design Review Committee.
- Assisting in presentations to the Planning Commission, City Council, various committees, and advisory boards.
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Bachelor’s degree with major work in urban planning public administration, geography, architecture, or a related field.
Six months of related experience in municipal government.
