Staff Air Quality Analyst

Job Description

A Staff Air Quality Analyst at Meridian Consultants works on a variety of projects and completes research under the guidance of project managers and senior staff. Work includes preparation of air quality and greenhouse gas studies to support CEQA and/or NEPA documents, and other environmental and planning documents.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct analytical and programmatic work related to air quality, and greenhouse gas studies including a variety of advanced and complex professional/technical modeling for mobile, stationary source, and other activities in air quality management and noise control. Activities involve gathering data, analyzing information, conducting model runs, interpreting results, and other modeling efforts.
  • Assists with the preparation of technical support studies related to initial studies, negative declarations, mitigated negative declarations, environmental impact reports, environmental assessments, environmental impact statements, and other comprehensive environmental documents involving all levels of CEQA/NEPA or other related planning documents (i.e., Specific Plans).
  • Ability to work independently and perform on-site field investigations including but not limited to gathering short-term and long-term ambient noise measurements.
  • Provides background research for a variety of topics related to complex municipal planning projects, infrastructure projects, and private land development projects.
  • Demonstrate ability to multitask, be creative and innovative with tasks, and consistently provide complete assignments within schedule and budget.
  • Promotes a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service in adherence with the company’s mission, vision, and values.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Qualifications

  • Technical competence and understanding of air quality and greenhouse gas analyses. Also, should also have broad understanding of other technical disciplines such as land use, traffic and utilities as they may relate to air quality and GHG.
  • Minimum of two-year work industry-related experience
  • Direct experience completing environmental documentation for various types of projects related to urban development and infrastructure projects throughout California
  • Basic knowledge, understanding, and experience with applicable state and federal policies and regulations (e.g., CEQA, AB 32, SB743 and others) preferred.
  • Basic knowledge, understanding, and experience with applicable air emissions modeling software applications (e.g., EMFAC, CalEEMod, AERMOD, FHWA TNM and RCNM). Understanding of other numerical modeling efforts (such as FHWA noise modeling) beneficial.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Strong spatial analysis and mapping skills using e.g. ArcGIS, QGIS, or GRASS GIS is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific data analyses and experience with interpreting scientific results.
  • Advanced technical writing skills

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental studies, environmental management, urban planning, mathematical modeling or a related discipline required.
