Job Description
Meridian Consultants is looking for a Senior CEQA Project Manager in our downtown Los Angeles office responsible for management of client relationships, overseeing preparation of environmental analyses and compliance documentation, project schedules and budgets, and internal and external coordination associated with project work and other environmental service activities.
This position will work in a collaborative inter-disciplinary fast growing team within a diverse company; lead pursuits; direct and manage complex projects; build a team; manage and mentor junior staff; and strengthen our client relationships.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record of managing air quality and climate change projects, winning work, and demonstrating a strong customer service orientation and business development skills. The successful candidate will embody Meridian Consultants’ shared values.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Cultivate strong relationships with clients, including frequent communication to understand client needs and position Meridian Consultants to win new work and opportunities
- Coordinate, prepare, and manage CEQA and other environmental compliance documentation with in-house team and/or specialist subconsultants in accordance with an approved scope of work, budget and schedule
- Interact with internal team, subconsultants, clients, and regulatory agencies to identify and resolve complex project issues
- Provide quality control review of all CEQA and technical environmental documents prior to submittal to the client
- Manage projects within Meridian Consultants’ financial management system, including project set-up, monthly monitoring of individual tasks, invoicing, and preparation of monthly progress reports
- Identification of new opportunities with current and new clients focusing on the Los Angeles Basin and surrounding areas
- Schedule and lead meetings, plan for and develop project deliverables, oversee work prepared by others, and conduct other necessary activities to meet client project needs
- Lead proposals and interviews for new opportunities in which Meridian Consultants has pre-positioned, including development of team organization and experience, approach, schedule, scope and fee
- Ability to build teams and attract new talent to Meridian Consultants
- Mentor and eventually supervise junior staff
Required Experience / Skills / Education
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum of 10 years of CEQA project management experience with increasing responsibilities on each assignment
- Bachelors’ degree in urban and regional planning, environmental studies or related field. An advanced degree (Masters) in any of these areas is preferable
- Evidence of continuing education in CEQA regulations and other federal, state and local environmental regulations
- Expert knowledge of CEQA and NEPA statues, guidelines, case law and any related activities, analysis, education, and communication
- Knowledge and experience with other federal and state environmental regulatory requirements, such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act
- Experience working on projects within the coastal zone
- Regulatory compliance/permitting experience a plus
- Experience in marketing and business development to capitalize on existing client relationships and to expand Meridian Consultants’ profile and market share in the regional market.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to timely communicate to various project parties including designer, owner, contractor and authorities having jurisdiction
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in the strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership techniques, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
- Ability to take the initiative to resolve conflicts that arise during the project with internal team and subconsultants, clients, and regulatory agencies
- Ability to foster and cultivate the Meridian Consultants culture and exemplify the Meridian Consultants shared values
- Develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish the work
- Manage one’s own time and the time of others in order to meet project deadlines
- Ability to multi-task and change priorities quickly
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and/or manage junior staff

The position may require regular travel in California, including occasional overnight travel associated with conferences and meetings.
