Job Description

Conveniently located in the heart of Orange County, the vibrant City of Tustin (pop. 79,326) offers an exceptional quality of life. The Community Development Director oversees a department organized across three divisions – Planning, Building and Economic Development, and is supported by 26.5 FTE and a FY 2024-25 budget of approximately $6 million.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Committed to aligning the department’s efforts with the City Council’s strategic vision, the ideal candidate will be customer-driven and bring a leadership style rooted in collaboration, accountability, and commitment to public service. The City seeks an effective problem-solver with common sense, sound judgment, and political sensitivity to lead this department, which is essential to Tustin’s continued growth and vitality. Competitive candidates will offer seven years of progressively responsible professional planning experience, encompassing both advanced and current planning, with a minimum of three years of management experience in a municipal planning department and a bachelor’s degree. A master’s degree is preferred.
