Vice Director for Administration

Director of Community Development

City of Monterey Park, CA / Monterey Park, CA
Posted on: March 3, 2025

Application Deadline: April 4, 2025

Job Description

Director of Community Development

City of Monterey Park, California

Does working with an “unparalleled team of thriving, innovative, and inclusive leaders”…“to provide excellent service, foster growth and opportunity, and create a joyous collaborative environment” in an organization that values “communication, teamwork, respect, integrity and professionalism” call-out to you and sound like a City you’d want to work with?  Are you a “can do” professional for achieving community and economic development goals?

The City of Monterey Park, California (population approximately 60,000) is looking for a Director of Community Development who is “big picture” and a leader/facilitator for moving the organization forward, working with others, and accomplishing City goals and objectives, not be a “regulator.” The typical background for the position is Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field (Master’s degree is preferred) and at least 7 years of progressively responsible administrative and supervisory experience in public administration in a comparable position or other managerial capacity that includes supervision. Prior experience in both a Planning Department and Economic Department is preferable..  The annual salary range of the position is $154,932 to $245,640, and the City provides an excellent benefit package.

The City of Monterey Park is well recognized as a community oriented, culturally diverse and resilient city that is one of the best places to live and work in America.  With a strong, supportive and embracing spirit among residents as well as businesses, good schools, a diverse population, convenient access to all corners of Los Angeles, as well as nearby recreational opportunities, Monterey Park is a vibrant, excellent community to call home and conduct commerce. The City is located adjacent to the Long Beach Freeway (710) on the west, the San Bernardino Freeway (Interstate 10) on the north, and the Pomona Freeway (State Highway 60) on the south which provide north-south and east-west access to all of Southern California.
