Under direction of the District Local Assistance Engineer (DLAE), a Senior Transportation Engineer, performs duties related to administration and management of State and Federal-Aid funding programs. Works with Local Agencies, Regional Transportation Planning Agencies (RTPA), Imperial County Transportation Commission (ICTC), San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) and SANDAG, in providing engineering technical assistance, procedural and program guidance, and funds management on locally-administered State and Federal-Aid projects.Project and program management assistance to the local agency in coordinating reviews of project information with other functional departments in the District, Headquarters (HQ), and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Manages various Local Assistance databases to ensure project information is current and accurate.

Transportation Engineer Civil Exam

Candidates are required to review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs) for this classification. If you meet MQs under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, DO NOT TAKE the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. Candidates who take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle may negatively impact their hiring eligibility. Please contact the exam unit at [email protected] for additional information prior to taking the online examination.

Eligibility for hire is determined by your score on the Transportation Engineer (Civil) Exam. You must be on the state examination list to be eligible for these positions.
