Senior Environmental Transportation Planners

LSA / CA Offices
Posted on: June 15, 2024

Application Deadline: Open until filled

Job Description

LSA is seeking Senior Environmental Transportation Planners to join the team in any of its 9 California offices. The ideal candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of experience successfully preparing and managing CEQA and NEPA documents with specific knowledge of Caltrans, FHWA, and FTA requirements.  The primary duty of this role is to manage CEQA, NEPA and other environmental compliance documents for a wide range of local government and transportation clients. Some experience with non-transportation projects (e.g., private development, infrastructure) is also desired. Strong emphasis will be placed on previous technical experience with transportation agencies, quality of work, and the ability to manage project budgets and schedules. Remote and flex-work options will also be considered.

LSA places a strong emphasis on previous technical experience, quality of work, and the ability to manage project budgets and schedules. Excellent communication skills, willingness to collaborate with others, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment are essential.

Candidates must have the ability and willingness to work in one of LSA’s offices. Flexible workplace schedules may be arranged and allow for potential hybrid in-office/remote opportunities, subject to supervisor discretion. From time to time, travel to project sites and client meetings is also required. The salary range for this position is $71,000 to $154,000 per year. The compensation offer will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

LSA is a diversified environmental and transportation firm with California offices in Carlsbad, Clovis, Irvine, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, Point Richmond, Riverside, Roseville, and San Luis Obispo. The staff at LSA includes experts in environmental analysis, biological resources, cultural resources, paleontological resources, transportation/mobility planning and engineering, geographic information systems (GIS), air quality/climate change, noise, water quality, land use/resource management, sustainability, and general services administration (GSA). LSA has developed a reputation among clients and professional peers in both the public and private sectors as being thorough, innovative, and objective.

LSA’s greatest asset is its employee ownership. LSA offers excellent compensation and benefits, including competitive pay; medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, long-term care, group life and AD&D insurance plans; vacation, sick, and holiday pay; an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP); and a Profit Sharing and Savings Plan (with 401k and company safe harbor match). Additional incentives include a bonus program, engaging wellness program, and flexible work arrangements. LSA is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer and participates in E-Verify.

Required Experience / Skills / Education

Desired Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible and applicable experience with environmental documentation for transportation projects.
  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental planning, environmental science, or a related field. A master’s degree is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Public speaking skills are desirable.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and monitor all aspects of large, multi-discipline projects or medium-sized projects with a high degree of technical complexity.
  • Experience meeting tight deadlines.
  • Experience with budget control and invoicing.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
  • The position will also include business development, marketing, and proposal preparation.
  • Successful marketing experience and client development and retention skills are desirable.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
