Job Description
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Evaluates rezoning, variances, conditional use permits, subdivisions, design reviews, residential development plans, state and local ordinances, local coastal programs, and regulations
- Prepares various comprehensive reports, Requests for Qualifications, Requests for Proposals for studies and reviews, various planning matters, environmental requirements and regulations, and ordinances
- Presents planning objectives and policies to Planning Commission and City Council, various organizations, agencies and public groups
- Manages contracts with outside consultants and agencies responsible for the review and enforcement of regulations
- Advises architects, builders, attorneys, contractors, engineers, property owners, applicants, and the general public regarding city development policies and standards related to the environment, zoning, planning, and development actions
- Analyzes and interprets social, economic, population and land use data and trends
- Processes development applications, conditional use permits, zone text, and map amendments
- Responds to inquiries for information from the public both in-person, on the telephone, and through email
- Processes permit applications, zone text, and map amendments
- Performs site plan and design reviews for development proposals
- Perform related duties as required

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience/Education
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Planning, Environmental Studies or a related field; Two (2) years’ experience involving professional public planning and zoning work. Possession of a master’s degree may substitute for up to one year of required experience
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California driver license. Must also be able to meet driving record standards set by the city’s driving policy
